Using our talents to strengthen our community
Author Madeleine L’Engle once wrote, “We can’t take any credit for our talents. It’s how we use them that counts.”
At The Saint Paul & Minnesota Community Foundations, we are constantly looking for new ways to help nonprofits access talents and resources to help strengthen the communities we serve.
That’s why we are thrilled to announce a new partnership with Catchafire, a virtual, skills-based volunteering platform, to provide pro bono professional support for grantees across Minnesota.
The Saint Paul & Minnesota Community Foundations are bringing Catchafire resources free of charge to 300 nonprofits from across the state, so they can explore virtual volunteerism as a way to build capacity and increase their impact within their communities.
By using the platform, this pilot group of nonprofits will be matched with highly skilled volunteers from across the country with a wide variety of experiences, from designing and producing annual reports to building a website or developing new human resources systems.
The simplicity of the platform echoes much of what our online experiences look like today. Nonprofits post their immediate, operational needs in the form of well-structured, compelling projects to the Catchafire platform, and volunteers will then access the platform and respond to requests that match their skillsets.
The platform also becomes an opportunity for the organization to forge relationships with volunteers that endure beyond the project.
Catchafire has been introduced in other states, where nonprofits reported transformational, long-term impact for their organizations, including time and money saved, enhanced ability to serve their communities and acquired knowledge and skills for staff.
In connecting the combined talents of a nationwide pool of skilled volunteers with Minnesota grantees through the Catchafire platform, we believe nonprofits can engage with a new form of volunteerism, allowing them to do more for the communities they serve.
