Statement on the Death of Philando Castile

Our hearts continue to ache for the family and friends of Philando Castile and all those affected by systemic injustice, as well as for the police officers and civilians in Dallas killed or injured last night. As we struggle to identify a path forward we remember the words of the late civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who said:

“Men often hate each other because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don’t know each other; they don’t know each other because they cannot communicate; they cannot communicate because they are separated."

As a community foundation, we will continue to explore ways to bridge the divide, eliminate the separation and facilitate the conversations that lead to reconciliation. And we will continue to support individuals like the six recently honored as 2016 Facing Race Ambassadors for their work building communities where everyone feels safe, valued & respected.
