Facing Race

Changing the Narrative

The Facing Race Awards honors individuals and organizations working to eliminate racism and its effects throughout the state of Minnesota. The awards are part of the Foundations' ongoing commitment to racial equity and offer the opportunity to recognize community members who are courageously transforming our region and state.

Nominations are submitted by members of the community and reviewed by a panel of community volunteers that also recommends finalists for recognition.

Our 2017 Facing Race awards honored Hamse Warfa and Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood; the keynote speaker was Rashad Robinson, executive director of Color of Change, the nation's largest online racial justice organization. Gov. Mark Dayton officially declared Sept. 17, 2017 to be Facing Race Day in Minnesota.
