Planned Giving Options

Leave an enduring legacy

We offer many ways to incorporate charitable giving into your estate planning. In addition to tax benefits, these services provide for your enduring philanthropic legacy. There are many ways of making planned gifts:

  • Bequests. Easiest of all, you can make a bequest in your will or estate plan. Simply name a Minnesota Philanthropy Partners affiliate—such as The Saint Paul Foundation or Minnesota Community Foundation—as the residual beneficiary of your estate, or as the recipient of a specific percentage of the estate or dollar amount. From there, we will take care of fulfilling your philanthropic goals.
  • Life income gifts. Provide for the financial needs of your loved ones while achieving your philanthropic dreams. With a charitable remainder trust, you can transfer cash gifts or appreciated assets to a trust. This provides income to one or more family members. Upon the beneficiary’s death, the remaining assets become a permanent endowment that supports the charitable goals you specify. Alternately, with a charitable gift annuity, your gift is contributed to a MN Partners affiliate in exchange for a commitment to pay you or other income beneficiaries a specified annual amount for life. Upon the death of the last annuitant, the remaining assets create a permanent endowment that supports the charitable purposes you specify.
  • Retained life estate. This approach allows you to contribute a private residence, vacation home or farm while retaining the right to live in and use the property during your lifetime. The financial benefits are instant—you receive a charitable deduction in the year your gift is made.

The Rutledge Family Fund. Having lived his entire life in Waseca, Jerry Rutledge was dedicated to his community as a founding member of the Waseca Area Foundation. The former insurance executive established two charitable remainder trusts to ensure that his family commitment and generosity would continue to benefit the Waseca area and the Waseca County Historical Society.
